Larry Lu, come get your shirt.

Brendan's epic skate face.

If any of you have skated with Brendan, you'll know what I'm talking about. He always seems to be able to perfectly describe the situation.

"Getting gnarly" moments
as well as "OSHI-" ones.

Kelsey at Kelowna

She skated as hard as should could all season, and quite frankly amazed me with her ability to get back up after crashing so much.
Hope to see you out there next year. Heal up strong.

The million dollar patch.

Ben Sloat thinks he's really cool because he got this super sick patch from NJK leathers, and I triple dog dare you to tell him otherwise. It gave us some good laughs this past race season because people kept calling him "The Slayer".

"IT'S SLOATER, NOT SLAYER!!!!"
It seems to go with him everywhere.

Sunday 28 October 2012

The rain is upon us. Dress appropriately.

Don't let the rain slow you down or make you lose your stoke. It's BC. It rains. Go skate!!
And take your dog for a walk while you're at it.

A History of Bad Ideas. Outlaw action December 2nd.. toonie race

Tight heats at Britannia Beach

One of the many things I love about sanctioned events is that we have an area to push our skills to the limit as safely as our sport can be. You get to go toe-to-toe with your buddies and meet lots of new people along the way. It's a really great experience, and I think everyone who is into longboarding should give themselves a chance to be apart of it.

California boys killin' it at Whistler

James Kelly and Chance Gaul fleeing from Wes.

Kurt being awkward with babes - Whistler

Whistler was sponsored by NOS. There were NOS girls. We had to.

How and why did we get him in his boxers? Even better, why did those girls let him near them?

The Whistler Aerodome

There is an indoor bike complex at the Whistler Sliding Centre. It has a really sick foam pit that we've made sure up hit up each year.
Browntown gives us a polite wave.

Levi hit the wall.

Some call him Page.

The CRD's flower-child Kyle Barry has been going hard lately. It's great to see him in stride, after having to recover from that brutal ankle injury. Here he is at a greasy alley session.
Steeze in the leaves.

Remember when Liam got 3rd at Mt. Wash?

Yeah, that was pretty sweet.

Kurt got 4th by a hair. He didn't get a Vandal. Hah!

Kurt "Big Red" Gallant at Maryhill

Victoria Local and One Six Boardshop rider Kurt Gallant was going hard all weekend on the hill. Here he is looking pensive as we chilled by some windmills for a bit.
I think he gets his mystic ginger speed from the sun.

The views at Maryhill.

I don't really care if this isn't directly skateboarding related. Goldendale Washington is a really pretty place. Here are some scenic shots I took while I was there.
Awww yeah windmills! I haven't gotten to see them up close before.

Mandi and Max posing because HOLY CRAP LOOK AT THOSE MOUNTAINS
And yeah that's about it.

Sunday 14 October 2012

Mini Ramp action at Giant's Head campsite.

Onterrible Jason Epp was killing it on the mountain all day but still had some energy left for the mini ramp.

Downhill Dodging 101 at Danger Bay

Sometimes at races, things can get a little hectic in your heat. Crashes happen- it's a part of the sport. There is a huge variable of things that could take you out at any time, causing you to get eliminated. It could be other riders, random wildlife on the track ala Buffalo Bill or Whistler, or just self-confidence.
Sometimes you avoid disaster.
You need to be prepared for things to get gnarly, and when they do- and they always do eventually- you should have some sort of strategy to get through these situations as safely as possible.
And sometimes you don't.
Ride safe folks!

Monday 8 October 2012

Something happened here in the Hope Skate Park.

But I'm not entirely sure what it was.

Liam Poirier and Jesse MacIntosh get pitted on Knox.

After the first day of Skylands we still weren't tired so we decided to find a place to freeride around Kelowna. Mt. Knox was apparently the spot to be, because we ended up meeting a bunch of skaters there.
Victoria local and Regular Underground's grom Liam Poirier gets inside on one of Knox's many Hairpins.

Liam and Jesse from Nanaimo were givin' er at the race-course all day and didn't show a sign of stopping at Knox.
Jesse MacIntosh apexes a corner with ease.
I'm tired, so this is short.

The Dirt Track at the Britannia Campsite

Right next to the field all the skaters camp in is an aquatic center and a dirt track for bikes... Or skateboards.
Island Luke seems stoked on the dirt-jumps.
Browntown gettin' it on the dirt-jump action.

Random photobomb from Calgary

Encountered two young skaters from Calgary while we were in the Properties, Alex and Adrian. They were shredding hard, and were totally unexpected and just kinda appeared.
Photobombin'.

Nice to meet you boys!
Cam and Dylan were also getting in on some hands-down action. Everyone in Vic seems to be getting into going faster now. I'm quite pleased.

Cam is back. Kinda.

Cam Jones was fighting forest fires all summer in Smithers and didn't have anyone else to skate with. When I found out he was going to be on stand-by in Duncan for a while I figured I had better go see him. He needed a set-up and safety gear but Dylan was able to hook him up good and proper.
Look, there he goes.

One Six rider Dylan Campbell came to see Cam too.
Hit up some corners in the Properties and scared some mountain-bikers, then did some freeriding in Cowichan Bay. Gooooood day.

Kurt being awkward with babes - Brittania

At every race with energy drink sponsor girls, we get Kurt to pose with them. This is from Brittania. It's also the least offending to the eyes.

Lugein' It.

Chris McBride was awesome enough to lend me a luge until the spring freeride, so ive been practising every chance i get, i figure the least i can do to repay him is get good on the thing. Channel Ridge was lots of fun, Juniper was really, really, really fast, and i uh, don't wanna talk about it.

Saltspring

so, the kids at the saltspring skatepark probally don't understand why people huck shoes over powerlines, but as you can see, they're excited by the prospect, i did't even know skateboards had laces.

Switchback Longboards gets weird at Brittania.

Switchback Longboards of Nanaimo are big sponsors for all of the races and other events here in BC. They always have a unique way of making the event memorable. At the Brittania Classic, it was the mini-ramp.
Brandon Gonzalo tearing it up in the Switchback Ramp.

They also delivered a great commentary.
