Proving grounds sesh

With the rain leaving us alone for the day, and my brother out on vacation, it was time to ease back into some downhill. (We've been skateing faaar to much ramp and bowl) A proving grounds sesh was in order, great dead end hill, super steep, long and out of the way, great place to go mess around and let max have a run.
First sunny warm day in a while.
Go fast, get sideways
This hill is a wheel raper, and using classic thane on it is kinda like being a blonde naked chick running through Johannesburg as the bars are letting out.
Sooner or later every proving grounds sesh ends up turning into a mach 10 longest slide comp. I always go faster, Ben tends to float longer

Some flics of the Sooke session last weekend.

Ben Reynolds gets lazy.
Jimmy Chhor shredding in switch.
I went down to Sooke with Dylan last Saturday to skate with the groms out there. It was a good time. Decent hill, nice weather, the Sookies were strutting their stuff. Dylan took his shirt off and immediately got mangled. Good times.
As soon as I took my camera out, a resident came down to tell us where we were skating was on a Strata and we had to leave. The usual. We rolled out Autobots convoy style to a spot Adam wanted to show us in the Highlands. After avoiding some hazardous drivers we made it to the next spot to meet up with some Vic groms. Skated there for a bit, and then I went to work.
It was good to skate with some kids that I don't normally skate with. Everyone is progressing a lot. Keep 'er up boys. Stoked.

Something's Fresh Podium Pictures

Headed back up island to skate in Maple Bay at a spot Banting showed us last weekend. Things started in the usual style when we discovered the van blocked in by one of Brian's coworkers, after a half hour holdup, we were on our way. The rain was just stopping as we arrived and the sun came out. Banting held the race round robin style, with the intent of after 8 rounds of 3 man heats we'd switch to elimination. However the wasn't to be, the developer showed up to take his daughter for a bike ride and kicked us all off his property for liability reasons, just another example of how insurance is the single worst thing to ever happen to our species. It did however start pissing rain at about that time, so i was glad for the excuse. Levi took the outlaw key and we're all glad to see him not working Saturdays anymore, Banting came second, Brandon Gold (still spelling it wrong?) moved up from his 4th last weekend to get on the podium and South Island skate's own Dion got in there at 4th. After making a pretty splashy exit, we headed home.

Murkin' Something Fresh outlaw preview pics

This lefthander is gonna straight eat kids, if its wet, slide early or pay, if its dry pay the iron price and don't slide at all. Sloat power breaking in some freshies.

Wyatt Matthews figures out the wet dry.
If she's dry, just force it. It'll go well, or it won't.

The something fresh course is fast, fresh, and wants your flesh. If its dry, you should be gripping everything (but if you don't, its gonna suck. hard.) If its wet, anything goes. This course has some ripping drops and should be a really good time, cya in Maple Bay on sat.

facebook link to event.  https://www.facebook.com/#!/events/125397864294440 Banting is throwing this one. Look for more on him on South Island skate next week.

"I just don't know what to do with my hands"

The shitvan's first trip of the year went well, we had some new riders (Max and Wyatt) and some vet's, (well, we had Dale, cause, we'll always have Dale) and with the seats full and room for a hitcher, we took off. The Biggs/Dumont race was pretty awesome, Mike made us stand at the top of both hills, and wait for a coin toss to decide which one we were skating down. Dion took a minor tumble in a practise run that led to a major board search, but luckly that would be it for crashs. Racing went well, well over thirty boarders showed up, many new faces and we proceded to grind it out. For a fatpower hill I suprised myself, and Shaun and Sloat cleaned up. Recomer Brandon Gold (I spelled your last name wrong I think but I don't care.) took 4th as a welcome return from several years trekking to the far east to join the circus. Amy and Mike threw a kickass outlaw, and thanks to Hans and Mike's dad for driving shuttles and all the random moms that threw down.

Nick Jeans lost edit

Never thought i'd even see any of this. Ben and I took the shitvan to meet the switchback bus. Bus broke down and Mandi got a busload of guests for the night.
